Mason Kerns is the son of a farmer and a nurse from Iowa. He earned his bachelor’s degree With Distinction from the University of Iowa as a double major, graduating With Honors and KappaTau Alpha in journalism and With Honors in political science.
While an undergraduate, he was an award-winning journalist, published in the DesMoines Register, the Daily Iowan, and USA Today. Mason attended the University of Miami School of Law on an academic scholarship. He earned his juris doctorate Cum Laude from Miami, earning a CALI Excellence for the Future Award in Legal Research and Writing and a Dean’s Certificate of Achievement for Outstanding Academic Performance in Substantive Criminal Law and Legal Research and Writing.
After a series of prized clerkships in law school, Mason turned down private-sector offers in favor of defending the accused as an assistant public defender in Miami, where he honed his aggressive trial practice.
Prior to founding Mason Kerns Law, P.A., Mason worked as a lawyer for noted Coconut Grove firms Mase Seitz Briggs, P.A. and Leesfield & Partners, P.A. His bespoke, client-centric law firm focuses on high-stakes appeals and trials. Mason is admitted to practice in the courts of Iowa and in every state and federal court in Florida.
He practices before the federal Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals and has been admitted pro hac vice in an array of federal and state courts, including in Ohio and Rhode Island. Mason’s firm is proud of its ability to adapt to the customs of any forum and provide top-notch representation regardless of the venue. Among other honors, awards, and distinctions, Mason serves on the Board of Directors of the Miami chapter of the Florida Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers.
